When Bhima saw this insult to Draupadi, his fury became uncontrollable. He took a vow there and then that he would kill Dussashana and drink his blood for touching the clothing of Draupadi. Then he turned to Duryodhana and swore that he would break his thighs and kill him.

Arjuna also burning with fury took an oath that he would kill the remainder of Duryodhana's brothers and all the Kauravas assembled there in the gambling hall.Nakula took the vow that he would kill Shakuni and Sahadeva vowed that he would kill the son of Shakuni whose name was Uluka.

When Dhritarashtra heard these oaths uttered by the Pandavas he knew that they were serious enough to fulfill them. Then he broke the long silence. He apologised to Draupadi telling her that his sons did her a great injustice. He asked her to forgive them and told her to ask a boon of him which he will grant without question.

Draupadi asked for the release of her five husbands from Duryodhan's clutches.Dhritarashtra granted her her wishes and then the Pandavas proceeded to leave the assembly with their heads bent in shame. No one there had the guts to speak with them.

Yudhishtira before leaving went up to Dhritarashtra and with folded palms asked the King what he wanted them to do.Pleased with his humility,Dhritarashtra also apologised to Yudhishtira. He also asked him to forgive his sons even though they have performed un-pardonable acts.He then returned to Yudhishtira everything that he lost in the gambling.
